Eating unprocessed plant foods may help you keeping your middle age smart with not much long term weight gain issues. On the opposite for long term weight gain French fries, meat and sugary drinks can have the effect inverse to above, a new research suggests. The other finding also suggests that not just the calories are the issue for avoiding aged weight gain.

When your food intake becomes more than the energy you consumed, you will starts to gain weight. All the extra energy which is called calories stored in the form for fat in different parts of your body, usually in abdomen and hips. Excess increase in your weight may lead to heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and even cancer.
Research of long term weight gain
A research was conducted at the Harvard School of Public Health under a team led by Dr. Dariush Mozaaffarian and Dr. Frank Hu. This research’s core objective was to find out the changes in the people’s lifestyle that put them to have gradual and long term weight gain. This research was funded by the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
Analysis of long term weight gain research
This research team analyzed the eating habits and lifestyle of three groups in which total number of people we over 120,000 of aged between 12 to 20 years. In this research the participants filled a biennial survey in which they entered their diet, duration of sleep, physical activity, alcohol use and television habit and their body weight was also noted after every four years. The New England Journal of Medicine issued this research on June 23, 2011.
Finds of long term weight gain research
This research found that there are quite a few lifestyle changes which lead to weight gain over four years. Participants of this research gained less weight than those who don’t have physical activity, but heavy exercise is not associated with the results of this research. People who slept for more than 8 hours a day gained more weight. Weight gain issue also arises in the people having increased in TV watching with around one third of a pound for every TV hour.
Food is the primary object of the long term weight gain. Potato chips, sugar drinks, processed meat were linked to long term weight gain for about a pound or more. Having more French fries led to an increase of about 3 pounds and eating more refined sweets, desserts and grains led to an increase of about half a pound. And in inverse, eating more vegetables, fruits whole grains, nuts and yogurt found to have long term weight loss in over four years, in which yogurt found to be the highest long term weight losing food with an average of 0.82 pounds of weight lost.
This research also suggests that heavily processed foods may not fulfill the huger than less processed, high fiber food which will cause higher food intake and due to this calories intake also increased. “The idea that there are no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods is a myth that needs to be debunked,” Dr. Hu says. This observational research was based on the recall of foods participant ate around four years, therefore more precise research need to confirm whether eating particular foods can affect long term weight gain.
